A Naturopathic Doctor
Naturopathic doctors are trained in the same
basic sciences as medical doctors. They study from the same text books, take many of the same courses, fulfill the
same hour requirements and pass the same basic examinations. However, where the medical doctor studies drugs to treat
disease, the naturopathic doctor studies natural means to prevent and overcome health problems. The Naturopath specializes
in natural remedies such as diet, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, enzymes and manipulation as a means to create "homeostasis"
or the relative constancy and balance in the internal environment of the body.
Dr. Robert Preston attended the Arizona
State University at Tempe, Los Angeles College of Chiropractic, American College of Natural Healing Sciences and the Arizona
College of Naturopathic Medicine. He was a diplomat of the National Board of Naturopathic Examiners and certified by
the Idaho State Board of Naturopathic Examiners.
President and founder of the International Institute of Nutritional Research in 1985,
Dr. Preston dedicated his entire life to the research and scientific study of the vital role that nutrition plays in achieving
and maintaining optimal health.
Dr. Preston's practice combined chiropractic with naturopathic medicine
in a unique and effective way. His practice successfully treated patients for over 30 years. Toward the end
of his practicing years Dr. Preston, known as "Doc" to his many students, founded the American Healthiatry Association
and developed the curriculum and manual for The American College of Healthiatry. He taught and spoke nationally
for approximately 10 years until his retirement in the late 1990's.
Doc's teachings involved many concepts needed
to be a natural health care provider including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, as well as office procedures and business
management. He personally taught Ronnie and Carla, co-founders and owners of Energy Concepts, and steered the beginning
of their practice. He remained a constant source of support and encouragment until his unexpected death in March 2005.
Doc's
death was a tremendous loss to all those who knew him By starting with the foundation that Doc presented, Energy
Concepts has evolved into its own unique natural health practice.
